Equi Consultancy Partners Presents Research on Inclusive Leadership and Civic Trust

Equi Consultancy Partners presented its research on inclusive leadership as a catalyst for civic trust at the recent Dubai Global Social Capital Conference, bringing together perspectives on diversity, equity and inclusion, social capital, inclusive governance and institutional trust.

The presentation examined how inclusive leadership and governance practices can contribute to more effective relationships between communities and institutions, with a particular focus on the role of social capital in supporting civic trust across democratic systems.

Understanding the Three Forms of Social Capital

The research explored three forms of social capital: bonding, bridging and linking.

Bonding social capital relates to connections and trust within groups and communities, bridging social capital connects people across different groups, and linking social capital connects communities with institutions and decision-makers.

The presentation considered how inclusive governance practices can contribute to each of these areas. Participatory decision-making can provide greater opportunities for people to contribute to decisions, while transparent communication can improve understanding and accountability between institutions and communities. Proactive engagement with underrepresented groups can also help address barriers to participation.

Moving Beyond Representation to Meaningful Influence

A key focus of the research was the distinction between representation and meaningful influence. Inclusive leadership is not simply about ensuring diverse voices are present. It also requires people to have meaningful opportunities to participate, contribute to decisions and understand how their perspectives have been considered.

The discussion provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives with international participants and examine the relationship between inclusive leadership, social capital and institutional trust.

Reflections from the Conference

Nora Fraser, CEO of Equi Consultancy Partners, said:

"The Global Social Capital Conference provided an important opportunity to explore the relationship between inclusive leadership, social capital and civic trust. The discussion highlighted the importance of looking beyond representation to consider participation, influence and the relationships between communities and institutions."

Equi Consultancy Partners continues to explore the relationship between social capital, inclusive leadership, governance and social impact through its research and advisory work.
